I've downloaded 11 freeware arcade(ish) games from locomalito.com - one of them has full cab art too!  (the ones that don't have cab art have poster art)  First one I tried ran fine on Pi5 (would likely on Pi4 too) but had some text width inconsistancy (game sprites looked fine).  I'll try to figure it out and test the others soon but I think I'll be adding these as options in the future.

If anyone knows of other freeware arcade games feel free to let me know, there's bound to be some cool stuff I've never heard of that would run great via Box86/WINE or maybe even open source...

So far, as posted in FrizzleFrieds four player game thread, I've tried Verminian Trap.  It's a four player Wizard of Wor style game in '1983 style', seemed fun from a quick single player game.  As it was the only four player game there I figured I'd start a new thread, all the games are 80s and 90s style.

Others I downloaded:
8-bit Killer
Darkula
EFMB - Endless Forms Most Beautiful
Gaurodan
Hydorah
Maldita Castila  (has cab art and also an EX version that isn't free for Switch, Steam etc)
The Curse of Issyos
They Came From Verminest (also has a non free sequel)
Toxic Tomb
Viriax

Aren't there a bunch of free steam games?  I'd read that the Pi5 will do some of them.  But are they/can they be low res?

There's a tonne of free games on Steam.  Not sure how many are arcade cab matirial though.

Ability to run in 240p will vary from game to game, often the answer will be no but if they were designed for 240p it shouldn't be an issue.  Some might work in 480i but not 240p.  Some might look "8 bit" but really be running a much higher res.  DRM can also be an issue, although that's usually only big money games with intrusive kernel level anti cheat and at that point the Pi wouldn't be fast enough anyway.

Looks like I'll have to have a go at adding x86 Steam.
