Adding "previews" fixed the artwork issue.

this may be my problem, how do i access this?
The Grid. A digital frontier. I tried to picture clusters of information as they moved through the computer. What did they look like? Chips? Motorcycles? Were the circuits like freeways? I kept dreaming of a world I thought I'd never see. And then. One day. I got in.

Attract Mode > Configure (TAB) > Emulators > Choose the emulator ... and it's in there.

Thanks! That worked. Now, how do I configure the controls?

I thought I'd fixed them up, are you up to date?  Either way, to change them:

Load up the game and press 'tab', there's a remap controller option.  The hotkeys were getting in the way of mapping at some point, if you need to run without the hotkeys to map the inputs exit all the menus with 'f4' and once you're at the terminal type:cd /boot/firmware/DonutDodo/gamedata
./DonutDodo.pi
(you can widen the image when it loads with 'ctrl'+'win'+'right_arrow')
once you exit the game type:sudo reboot

No idea what Ive done but the controls are now all messed up for Dodo, i remapped the keyboard keys by accident and the controller keys when changed do not work correctly. Any idea how to change back to what you set them as originally? Setting to default is all wrong as well.

try this file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hSWIqfDz-QBtI33qe6MPDH8vhGO_QwFK/view?usp=sharing

unzip it and put it in /home/pi/.local/share/DonutDodoArcade/  (maybe back up the one that's there just incase... guess its borked anyway)

Hopefully that gets it all fixed up.

just got around to this with my fresh install. When I TAB and try and change controller mappings it isnt fully working. IE "up" changes with Joy input but "down" i cannot select at all. Do i need to bypass the hotkeys to do this re mapping correctly?

Yeah, I think you do need to bypass the hotkeys or they also get picked up and you wind up setting 2 inputs at once acidentally.

That's exactly what's happening. I'll give that a try.

That looks all correct.  I can check it for you tomorrow if you need, short of there being a typo what you've written looks fine.

Just checked the ARpiCADE folder on the Linux side and its empty. Do I just transfer/copy over the DonutDodo folder from the windows side? Kind of explains why it couldnt find it.

So it would end up looking like this: cd \boot\firmware\DonutDodo\gamedata\DonutDodo.pi when I try to run it and I assume if yes it saves the config file there as well and I have to copy t back over to the windows side?

Not srure what you mean by the ARpiCADE folder is empty (do you mean the whole second partition is empty?  but then it wouldn't even boot...), but it doesn't sound right.

The config file is saved in /home/pi/.local/share/DonutDodoArcade/  but you shouldn't need to copy it (and it can't be written manually).

Only the game files need to be in /boot/firmware/DonutDodo/gamedata/

Try running it from the command line with:
/boot/firmware/DonutDodo/gamedata/./DonutDodo.pi
