I'm back online in the office but it's a bit shonky at the moment, might have to try extending the LAN rather than using WiFi.  Still a lot to sort out... (and where are my BNC RGB cables for the test bench...)

@Gsr94t did you sort it in the end?

@MarkOZLAD did you get any improvement out of FBNeo?

@PackingProtons did you get the voltage fixed up and are you up and running now?

@Flynn Lives thanks for helping people while I've been offline.

I recently installed this version to my RPI (last version was 3.7 I guess). Hooked to a jamma arcade cab with CRT. Now when trying to run a game this happens:

The menus run fine, only when trying to run a game the resolution is off. I didn't have this problem in the 3.7 version.

How to fix this?

What emulator is that running in?  And also, what system settings are you using? (defaults?)  I'll have to take a look.

If it's AdvMAME (MAME 106) it's likely you can fix the issue with the video menu in AdvMAMEs menus (tab or start+right while the game is running).

I haven't had the chance to try it. We rent out our downstairs periodically and there are people in atm so I don't have access to the arcade.

Thanks for checking in @dee2eR

edit;
I tried the suggestion from @Flynn Lives

i.e. open a game which uses FBA
Using F1 , went into the video options and chose to rotate
Was currently set to 270
When I choose any of the rotation options - it only rotates the game itself which is playing in the background underneath the (transparent) retroarch menu.
At 270 which it was already on, the game displays correctly for a vertical screen. To clarify, games display fine, its only the F1 menu itself which i have to read sideways in other words.
Changing rotations in this F1 menu only rotates the game thats playing, rather than the 'F1 Retroarch' menu itself. That menu permanently stays fixed in the entire time into a horizontal orientation

I guess ill just have to leave it unless theres something that specifically changes the retroarch menu for vertical only. i.e. does the retroarch.cfg file mentioned by Flynn, change the menus orientation itself, or does that do the same thing as mentioned above (just rotates the game display). If it does help the menu situation, where abouts would the file be located, is it on boot drive, or do i need the linux partition. thanks
