Hello. I have an older arpicade with pi3b i bought few years back.

I can see your later ones have flycast support these days.

Just wondering if i buy a new aepicade setup with latest pi 5, can i play the arcade version of Marvel vs capcom 2? Already have a dreamcast and dont want to buy naomi hardware, just wanted that arcade game feel with credits etc haha

MVsC2 should play great on Pi5.

At the risk of talking myself out of a board sale you can also upgrade your current board to a newer Pi if you like.  All it might need is an upgraded fuse, but even that may have already been done if the board isn't too old (I've been fitting 2.5A fuses for the past few years and there was at least a year of 2A prior to that, but the oldest boards have 1A and need an upgrade).

Thanks for your help and honesty

We have 2x of your Raspberry Jammas in our household.

My brother just plays classic shooters, but I want to start getting into Arcade emulation for Mvc2 and EX2Plus (arcade versions)

Ill check my fuse, but with the raspberry pi5, im just a little lost with what would be needed

I see Model A versions, Model B versions
2GB, 4GB, 8GB
Some which have cooling options, some which are bare-pcb like the older version 3 I have

I know Id need HDMI to Micro HDMI adapter, just hoping for your insight (or anyone else who might be on the forum), just wondering what the best pi5 would be to get  e.g. Pi5b, 4GB , plenty ? go the 8GB? 5a or 5b make a difference?

cheers

You should be fine with Pi5 2gig for arcade use.  I haven't found anything that needs more RAM than that yet.  The new 1gig may be OK too but I haven't tried it, I also haven't tried the 16gig. 2, 4 and 8 gig are all confirmed working.

I strongly recommend getting the official active cooler with a Pi5.  They're cheap and work well enough.  Without the cooler heat is an issue with Pi5.

I haven't seen a model A Pi5, don't think I've seen a model a since Pi3...  will have to pick one up to make sure it works.

Im a bit out of touch with tech

I saw a model b pi5 listed somewhere and assumed it was a newer release of a pi5 (and thought there mightve been a model A ) Update: I was definitely mistaken . Ended up buying Pi5B

Thanks heaps for the info

Just updating this thread for anyone else who might be interested

Pi5b on a new raspberry jamma.

Using flycast on arpicade 5 with the arcade ROM

Marvel Vs Capcom 2 plays great

Im very happy with it.

Same with EX2 Plus in MAME 279, so far really smooth plays very nice!

Further update:
1.  Put in all the latest arpicade updates to 2.7
2. Performed smaller config file updates (from the below post, which fixes some button assignment issues post 2.7 update) and edited a file in notepad++ to remove mvsc2 from the naomi setting which was forcing 240p (literally remove "mvsc2" in the list of rom names in the line that advises force240p , in the launchers naomi.sh file)

see in this thread regarding update files etc:

https://www.arpicade.net/index.php/topic,91.msg637.html#msg637

3. Set to 480i in the arpicade service menu

Mvc2 is even more visually stunning now, plays fast and smooth!!!
Id say its a must for mvc2 enthusiasts
