Does the RaspberryJAMMA combine L & R audio channels in to a single mono channel or does it simply run one of the channels (L or R)?   I've always assumed the prior,  but figured it would be something to confirm before deciding on if I want to pick up small amp to run stereo...

Also,  I note some minor background noises when running through JAMMA audio... if I run direct via a small amp,  will those noises clean up at all?

The RaspberryJAMMA is combining left and right channels into the single mono JAMMA audio.

A seperate stereo amp may or may not have less background noise.  It depends on what's causing it etc. the onboard mono amp is a bit sensetive to noise in the 12v - a stereo amp may or may not be powered by 12v in the first place let alone pick up the same noise.

It is likely that converting to stereo will sound a bit better but audio is generally the sum of all parts so it's hard to be certain... For example I own the same brand and model bookshelf speakers as my mate but we both use different audio amps and music sources and posibly most importantly different room shapes, speaker locations and floor coverings so they don't sound the same.
