Tried finding OTOS but only found v3 and 4 posts... but then again,  my search-fu is quite weak.

Is Donut Dodo supported in ARpiCADE 5 v2?

I assume the resolution issue (if I remember correctly) still remains (am I remembering correctly?)...?

If it is supported... are there docs somewhere OTOS you could point me to as to how to install?

Also... I guess I should at least LOOK at Fix it Felix for my vertical cabinet...  it's still running v1.6 of ARpiCADE... easily installed?

Donut Dodo res issue was fixed, it now automatically scales 5x wide for low res (I forget offhand when it was fixed, but it was the same update that auto fullscreens the terminal).

FIFJ is easily installed but will be buggy on 1.6, possibly the final change I made for it would fix the issue though.  After updating WINE entirely for v2 and a bunch of other stuff I think its possible the issue on 1.6 may just be a .dll file to copy.  If you try adding it to 1.6 let me know...

Both games are installed in similar ways, just copy the files into their respective folders in /boot.  There's options in the service menu to add them to gamelists, or as of v2 you can just add empty zipfiles ( fifj.zip / DonuDodo.zip ) in the mame-275 rom directory and they will be added like any other games.

By "copy the files"... just the unzip the donutdodo.zip file?  I ask as when I copy those files over,  it appears to be PRE-INSTALL as the only files available appear to be install files.

EDIT: The more I think on this the more I realize what kind of dumbass question it is.  Of course the stupid game has to be installed.  I'm gunna go try to figure it out.

:D

DD doesn't need to be installed in the traditional sense.  Definately do not use the RetroPie installer included with DonutDodo Pi edition

You only really need the gamedata folder.  Copy DonutDodo.pck and DonutDodo.pi to /boot/DonutDodo/gamedata/ - I don't think you need any other files.  The config files etc. are already on the other partition.

To add to arcade and all games lists either use the service menu option or add DonutDodo.zip (can be an empty file) to /boot[/firmware]/romsArcade/mame-275/ and rescan your roms.  OR if you wanted to do it by hand copy the line for DonutDodo from /boot/[firmware]/launchers/aml/mame275.aml to whichever Attract-Mode lists you like.

Well that worked brilliantly!  FWIW you can just extract the zip file you download after purchase to DonutDodo folder in the root "boot" drive... the extra files don't seem to bother anything...

Now,  on to setting up the artwork.  I think I might need to do something more that just dropping the images in to their respective folder... because I did just that... and none of the images appeared (not snap, marquee, nor wheel).  I suspect I'm putting the files in the wrong place.  Will report back when I figure that out... and man,  this game looks great.

The art will need to be in /boot/previews/snap/donutdodo/ etc.  I think all the files will need to be named DonutDodo.png (or mp4 or whatever) too.  I haven't actually got to adding art for it yet.

It's a very well done game.  Has the spirit of a early 80s classic with the fluid feel of a modern game.  Hopefully the Pi version sells well and they make more games, or it encourages others to make some new low res games that work on Pi.

Under the EMULATORS tab in DonutDodo ... the word "previews" in all 4 artwork paths was omitted...

Adding "previews" fixed the artwork issue.

Oh yeah, guess I missed that mistake due to never setting up the artwork.  Nicely spotted.

Also... the romlist created is lacking in the "extras" department.  Here is one that includes manufacturer,  year,  game category,  number of players,  joystick (4-way), and buttons set for 1.

DonutDodo;DonutDodo;donutdodo;;2023;Pixel Games;Platform / Run Jump;2P sim;0;joystick (4-way);good;1;raster;;;;1;;;;

beautiful, that was on my to-do list.  I'll copy it in.  Thanks.

EDIT: when I do the same for FIFJ should I include the fictional TomiKobi, 1983 details or the Disney real ones?

EDIT again: is Tobi Komi the real dev either way?
Another EDIT: is this silly? (still have to check if the double dating breaks anything):fifj;Fix It Felix Jr;fifj;;2012 / 1983;Tobi Komi / Disney;Platform / Run Jump;2P alt;0;joystick (4-way);good;1;raster;;;;1;;;;
MORE EDITING: alt entry with only details that are in game: fifj;Fix It Felix Jr;fifj;;1983;Tobi Komi;Platform / Run Jump;2P alt;0;joystick (4-way);good;1;raster;;;;1;;;;
come to think of it FIFJ is 2 buttons too...

Heck if I know... :)  I'm not too up on Fix-it-Felix... since it's a fictional game set in a fictional world... I'd go with the fictional name if there is one.

I think I'm gunna update the vertical cabinet to the new version.  It was just too smooth/easy to do on the horizontal cabinet to NOT do so with the vertical... plus I think I want to try out Fix-it-Felix...

GOOD NEWS!   I emailed Seb asking about his other game... Cash Cow DX... which looks very interesting ...

I asked if he had plans on releasing it for the Pi.   His response:

QuoteHello,

Thanks for getting in touch!

Yes, I do plan on making Cash Cow DX available for the Pi, and need to set aside time for it. Hopefully it will happen in the second half of 2025.

Take care,
Seb

Yay!

OK. what am i doing wrong? DD is intalled and launches but controls do not work and the wheel/artwork/snaps are missing yet I have them in correct folders.
The Grid. A digital frontier. I tried to picture clusters of information as they moved through the computer. What did they look like? Chips? Motorcycles? Were the circuits like freeways? I kept dreaming of a world I thought I'd never see. And then. One day. I got in.
