YET ANOTHER EDIT:
3.X.1 update, has the fixes from above and a couple more resolutions available (including qbert). Also I've tried to make the various different res/refreshs line up with each other a bit better. There's also a better four player adaptor setup with working hotkeys and hopefully less tweaking needed.
ARpiCADE_3.X.1_update.zip
Google Docs

it's an update to 3.X so unzip and put the update.sh and update folder into /boot/config-updater/ and then update from the service menu.

Right you are.  Sorry it's been a long, stress filled week... my brain isn't at it's best today.

There should be an update option in the ARpiCADE service menu *(f4 or service button from the game select menu).  If it's not there, I can't remember why that might be.  Happy to look into it but I'll have to burn a SD card, 3.11 is the oldest buiold I have in the pile in front of me.

I know you're not interested in the Pi3 stuff but it's a testament to how good your product is that mine,  and a fried of mine still run your adapter with pi3B in them and love them.

I was at my mate's 50th birthday part a couple of weeks ago and people there had so much fun playing on his.

Thank you.

I still have a bit of a soft spot for Pi3, it was the first Pi I got accurate res/refresh rates running for most games.  MAME 0.172 with sync refresh (or was it refresh sync...) was a revelation for the games that run fullspeed in 172 on Pi3.  There's some things about Pi3 and the weird quirky old RPi way (tvservice) of doing video output that I actually prefer to Pi5 (for Pi5 I had to figure out entirely different res switching methods).  Unfortunately I'm only one guy so inevitably the latest and greatest gets most of my attention re. active development.

Did you figure out FBNeo in the end?  I'm a bit curious having just recently tried it on Pi5 for the first time...  Once I have the ARpiCADE_5 update done I can probably add it to Pi3 with an update if you need.

Got to the proper service menu (the one I'm familiar with) using F4 on keyboard and performed the update.  Service button takes me to some other menu within attract mode (it's where i added FBneo emulator)

FBNeo only partial success.  Work perfectly with Neo Geo games,  other arcades are problematic.  I've sourced a different version of the core to try. Not sure what is wrong,  appears to be picking up the correct resolutions,  just wonky image on games like ddragon,  jitters in wboy.

I'm sure with your expertise you can do a better job with FBNeo but I'm not finished trying.  I too am time poor.

PS:  wboy works great on the Arpicade 3.X in Mame 0.172 anyway so the need for FBNeo is diminished.

Managed to find a small amount of time to do some more testing tonight.

The issue with ddragon and robocop where the top of the image is skewed to the right is not limited to FBNeo,  it is exactly the same in AdvanceMame.

I inserted the old version SD card (the one set up by you dee2er all those years ago) and the games both play in AdvanceMame and have no skew.  Same resolutions/frequencies appear in the information screens on both new and old.

So maybe some setting in the new version of the OS to blame?  Maybe the picture is not correctly set in the new one,  too far left maybe....I'll check the config.

Looking through the thread on the old server,  it appears someone else experienced the same issue with ddragon,  the skewed to the right top of the image, but no solution.

At this stage I would forgo FBNeo and just be happy with getting a ddragon fix.  Mame172 Wonder boy works perfectly on the new build which is priority number one for me.

Reviewed the differences between old software and new for Mame 172 and they appear identical so I guess it's some kind of raspberry pi OS fix /driver or something that fixed Wonder Boy.

For now the old SD card will be going back in the machine and I will just put up with the small amount of stutter in Wonder Boy.  Better that than other games being badly busted.

Interesting, now I wonder the difference too.  I'll look into it when I'm done on the PI5 update...  by the new build you mean 3.X or 3.11?

3.X with the update from the top post on this thread.

Seems I'm going nuts with this....Return to old SD card,  remove all wboy.zip roms except the one in the mame172 folder,  rescan roms, reboot.  Wonder Boy playing perfectly,  identically to the new build.

I believe I need a break!

it happens.  Sometimes I think the RPi foundation has harnessed Murphys Law in some way.

I just lost 2 hours to a typo while adding a resolution to ARpiCADE_5, if it's any consolation... (an extra 0 that didn't change the value of a number broke a res that is otherwise perfect)

@MarkOZLAD I've just tested the FBNeo update for 3.11 on 3.X and it works fine (at least from a quick test).

FBNeo upgrade for 3.11 (or 3.X) -installs FBNeo (libretro core) and modifys the existing fba launcher to use it instead.  Uses existing fba rom directory.  FBA is not removed in case there's a reason to have both but it is effectively disabled and replaced with FBNeo.

Appreciate this a lot.  I'll give it a whirl when I get some time and report back.

I thought I'd try putting this on my old Arpicade you sent to me when I bought the RJamma and, predictably, it doesn't work.  I'm guessing the OS is just too old,  haven't had a chance to review logs or anything.  I thought it worth a try as on my old install I don't have the sync issue with ddragon and robocop.

From looking through the update files, to revert all I have to to change the FBAlpha launcher and uncomment fbneo and revert the fba command line so easy peasy.

I'll try with 3.X when I get some time.
