DEVICE: Raspberry Pi 3 Model B (The year on it is 2015 iirc)
OS: ArPiCade 3.X.1 (I have the Update Installed, or should at least)

I have an important question. Now whenever I select a game, nothing shows up. I go to the pi I've installed but nothing when I should boot into a game. I've tried various buttons, but nothing.

Just a red power light and no activity from the device. I've tried buttons on the machine, buttons on a keyboard, nothing

Update: Okay it shows the green light sometimes, but it just says "No Signal" on my end. I have it on VGA too, but nothing

Second update: After turning off HDMI Safe mode, games do something, but it just says "not supported" on my monitor. I'm not sure if my monitor or tv I'm using is weird but it doesn't support this for whatever reason. I used Mrs. PAC-MAN as my test game. HDMI safe mode is off btw

Idk if I am doing this right but I am using the HDMI/Audio to VGA, with a female/male cable to my monitor. 


Third Update: I tried the game Pole Position, and it said it was loading, but it then just went back to the menu. I'm not sure if my ROMs are weird or whatever.

Okay FOURTH Update, kinda seems redundant but I must document

Some games work while others don't. Games like Mrs. PAC-MAN don't work while ones like Track and Field and Battle Zone work. Must be a MAME Emulator issue

Final Update: ok I might just be a bonehead because some work some don't, I might've just not installed them properly.

Okay guess I'm not a bonehead in that matter. No matter the emulator I put games like PAC-MAN in, I never get a picture. All it says is not supported, I know not if it's a resolution issue on my tv but it just doesn't load the game on my screen, it just says Not Supported.

If anyone knows anything about this topic PLEASE let me know.

I cant speak for the display issue.  If you press the service button does it take you to the menu to change display settings?

I can probably help guide you with games that dont open and go back to the main menu

Can you advise which exact games are doing this and can you advise which exact rom folder (i.e. mame version folder) you are putting the roms into

I know with pacman also, it needs a parent rom called puckman.zip as well

Roms need to be downloaded specific to the version of mame you intend to use
Rom files change over time and emulators are looking for different files in the zip when verifying. If they dont match it will just kick out back to main menu. Same goes for games that need a parent rom

If you can give more info about that, i can likely pm you some places where best to get the appropriate roms relevant for the version of mame youre intending to use

Sounds like you are still running the software in low res mode(?)...  from your description it sounds like it is changing res when you launch a game (maybe your VGA monitor can show some low resolutions but not others... hard to be sure there).  You will want to set the highres (480p/VGA) mode in config.txt which will keep it always in 480p.

In the case of Pacman it also needs the Puckman parent rom (depending on how your roms are organised, it is possible to have all parts in the Pacman rom).  Some other games may require bios roms also.

I wouldn't be surprised if the resolution is the issue. That was initially my problem with VGA at first before modifying that in the service menu.

The only game I've really had issues starting then kicking out is Pole Position or trying to get it on. It's not listed in the document provided, but I've gotten it to work elsewhere, so I don't know if it's recommended to not install or whatever. I've heard you need bios or dependent files though for that?

But generally its the romset version being used Versus version of emulator

I.e. if using 106 folder (advmame) you need a rom for the game made for that version mame i.e. using a later released romset of the same game name can have changes and be incompatible. You can even download entire romsets (e.g. google archive org advmame sets)  and just copy over the roms from the set that you wish to use, onto the pi's 106 rom folder

Okay Dee2er was right, I wasn't running it only in 480p. Works now!! PAC-MAN loads just fine now
