Daphne - scene order in Dragon's Lair

Last night I pulled out my RPI Jamma after years of being away from the hobby and I installed Apricade 3.x on my Pi3 B+.  I have a Dragon's Lair 2 cabinet that is gutted and been sitting for years waiting for me to restore it.  I decided rather than throwing at least $5k at it between monitor, boards, laser discs + player, maybe a dexter, etc that I would just install DL, DL2, SA, and TQ on this with a SDArcade style menu and run the cab with that.  I am expecting to use a Unico 26" Arcade LCD for it as a drop in replacement.

So after a little tinkering I got Daphne all running with the 4 games and downloaded video snaps for them.  When I load of Dragon's Lair to play though something seems off.   If is my memory failing me or is the scene sequencing off?   What I remember from the 80s was that when you died, you spawned again in the same room until you successfully completed it.  When I tried it this morning, anytime I died (A lot cause I suck) it is advancing to a new random room instead.  So which way is it supposed to be and if it's wrong, how can I fix that?

I'm far from sure if that's normal behaviour or not, as far as I know the behaviour should be the same as original.  Hopefully someone who knows DL better than I can chime in.  It's also possible there are dipswitch settings or different DL revisions with slightly differing behaviour... but again, I'm not sure.

It may be worth searching Hypseus Dragons Lair outside of ARpiCADE too, I don't think there's any reason Hypseus on ARpiCADE would have different behaviour to any other build of Hypseus.
